Remember the rumor we reported on that said that extensive price cuts are in the works for the Xbox 360? Well, Major Nelson announced today that this is indeed the case, as the cuts will be official starting on September 5. Check out the new prices below:

• Xbox 360 Arcade - $199
• Xbox 360 - $299
• Xbox 360 - Elite $399

This means that the Arcade is now cheaper than the Wii, so it will be intriguing indeed to see how much of an effect this will have on the sales figures for the coming months.

Following the ever-popular trend of releasing new music via Rock Band/Guitar Hero, the Smashing Pumpkins have announced that "G.L.O.W.," their new single, will be part of the set list for Guitar Hero: World Tour, according to 1up.

The single will packed in with two additional Pumpkins songs, "1979" and "The Everlasting Gaze," and will give you your first chance to hear the new song, as World Tour's October 15 release date is before the Pumpkins plan to have their new album finished. Also, group frontman Billy Corgan will be a playable character in the career mode.

It'll be fascinating to see how much of an effect the single inclusion in World Tour will have on album sales. After all, Dragonforce's sales didn't really take off until they allowed Activision to include Through Fire and Flames on Guitar Hero III.

After promising  the release of the Rush album Moving Pictures for this week's Rock Band DLC, Harmonix has announced that they have run into some "unforeseen technical difficulties" that have sidelined the release for at least a couple more weeks.

However, they promised that there will still be DLC for this week and that "exciting news" is on the way from this weekend's PAX event, presumably related to Rock Band 2. We'll let you know what happens.

Sony has once again updated the Playstation Store, with the main additions being the release of Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty and a demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. There are plenty of other demos, trailers, and such, so check out the list of new content after the jump.

Those of you who've been waiting for years for a chance to take down the Lich King in World of Warcraft will finally get your chance in a few months when the next expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, hits, but for now you'll have to be satisfied with the game's new trailer, which doubles as the opening cinematic. 1up is reporting that Bethesda has revealed the official release dates for Fallout 3: October 28 in North America, and October 31 for Europe.

"We are very excited to let gamers get their hands on Fallout 3, the latest chapter in this beloved and highly acclaimed franchise," Bethesda President Vlatko Andonov said about the release. "To meet the huge demand for this title by our fans worldwide, we are planning one of the biggest launches of any game released this year."

As the successor to one of PC gaming's most legendary franchises, the game should be one of the most popular of the year, and it had a strong showing at this year's E3 event, where it won "Best RPG" awards from various gaming outlets. It'll be available for PC, 360, and PS3.

The first edition of Harmonix's new Rock Band newsletter hit the 'net today, and with it comes the news that Moving Pictures, perhaps the most popular album released by Canadian prog-rock trio Rush, will be hitting Rock Band as next week's DLC.

The seven-song album features GH2 favorite YYZ, which should prove to be tough challenge for all three players, along with the original version of Tom Sawyer. Check out the track list below:

Well, the achievements for the XBLA version of Mega Man 9 have been revealed, and "hardcore" might not be enough of a term to describe them.

Indeed, to collect these virtual treasures it'll take a superhuman effort, as you'll be performing such tasks as clearing the game without using any energy tanks, beating every boss with just the Mega Buster, and clearing the game without dying.

Rumors of a new PSP model have been floating around for a few months now, but you can finally place them in the "Confirmed" column, as the folks at Gizmodo have uncovered the FCC filing for the "PSP-3001."

The documents show that the redesign is largely focused on the internal components, meaning that Sony is probably trying to reduce the cost and make the system more resilient to hacking instead of improving the aesthetics. If you're a homebrewer, you might want to wait to see how hackable the new system will be before you switch over.
